We’re thrilled to put forth our vision for Axie Infinity: Atia’s Legacy — an MMO set in the Axie universe of Lunacia! The game has been under development since May of ‘24, and today’s trailer release is the first public preview we’ve ever shared.
The last time our teams felt this way was in 2018 when we hand-sent the earliest axies. Before we embark on this exciting adventure together, we thought you’d like us to paint a picture of what we’ve set out to build:
An Adventure Seven Years in the Making
We started building Axie seven years ago, and even back then it was clear — if you squinted — that gaming was about to change forever. A ragtag band of missionaries became a movement, a digital nation blurring the lines between gaming and physical reality.
After seven years, the numbers are mind boggling:
• Over 4B USD in volume, earning us the Guinness World Record for All-Time NFT trading volume
• Over 2M unique Axie owners, many of whom discovered crypto for the first time through Axie
• 270,000 monthly active players, and still the most valuable NFT IP ever invented in crypto
Now we’re ready to take on our next challenge. Over the years, we’ve seen glimpses of a collective dream for Axie. A world where we can socialize. Make friends. Battle foes. Partake in wars with real economic consequences.
Atia’s Legacy will be a monument to this vision.
New Game, Same DNA
We’ve learned a lot over the years, from our glorious victories and the trials we’ve faced as a movement. All of this scar tissue is going into Atia’s Legacy.
Here are a few principles we’ve set for ourselves:
The game must be cross-platform and mobile from the beginning
The game must have social coordination and warfare to ensure enough endgame content as well as laying the foundation for a robust economy
This is a game meant to be played together by close friends. It should also be conducive to making new ones
The game must demonstrate the power and potential of our ecosystem’s player-owned assets through deep integration with existing Axie NFTs and the economy
The art must be breathtaking and worthy of the Axie universe
What Will Gameplay in the Alpha Look Like?
If all goes smoothly, you’ll be able to see it for yourself during our playable alphas later this year. These alphas will showcase a few key features:

What have you learned from each game’s successes and failures?
Auto-battles (2018) taught us that people wanted real time battles and an obfuscation of many blockchain elements
Classic (2019) taught us that people love axie and they love to play for real economic consequences Project K (2020) taught us that social coordination and hanging out is a core part of Axie and most fun when done in-game
Origins (2022) taught us that the integration of Axie core can drive a robust economy. Collectibles should be elevated. Forcing competitive play on a game that also needs balance the economy can be counterproductive.
Homeland (2023) taught us to go for social features and battles first. Mobile compatibility needs to be thought of from the beginning.
What role will our player-owned assets play in Atia’s Legacy?
A big one. Atia’s Legacy’s deep integrations with the Axie economy will highlight the potential of player-owned assets.
Will our Land NFTs be used?
Yes!
What about Mystic axies?

Tripp is getting a lot of airtime in the trailer. Why?
This is because we hired Tripp as a generic actor to showcase the MMO's features. In the game itself, players will be able to choose between any axie (and other creatures) to be the player-controlled squad leader.
