The Axie Infinity: Homeland pre-beta phase is LIVE! It will run for an indefinite period of time. We’re transitioning from the Season format to a Phase format.
We’ve made significant updates to the reward structure, which will give players the chance to be rewarded with AXS through gathering, crafting, and victory in battle. We’re also excited to introduce a new Moonfall reward mechanic.
During the pre-beta phase, we’ve transitioned away from leaderboards + seasonal achievements, and diverted 20% of staking rewards to in-game Homeland rewards. This experiment allows us to better align incentives for a more sustainable Homeland economy.
The Axie Infinity: Homeland pre-beta phase has begun! This phase will run for an indefinite period of time and includes significant updates to the game’s reward structure. In December of 2022, we launched the alpha version of Homeland and began refining the game over the following 9 months. Today, we’re taking the next step in Homeland’s development by entering the pre-beta phase. This will allow us to further test, iterate, and improve the game before going into beta.
Rewards, Moonfalls, and Lockboxes
During this pre-beta phase, we’ve made significant updates to the reward structure. Players will now have the chance to earn mAXS by completing tasks like gathering, crafting, and achieving victory in battle! For example, imagine sending your axies to gather wood. Those axies will do their job, and have a chance to generate AXS rewards for you.
The mAXS you earn will go into your Lockbox, and the Sky Mavis team will withdraw + verify all Lockbox contents once per week, every Monday. The verified AXS will then be minted to AXS, which players will be able to claim on App.Axie. This experiment will allow us to better understand how we can integrate rewards into gameplay and distribute them to more players without relying on Leaderboard performance. That means every player has a chance to get their hands on a piece of the Axie universe!

We’re also excited to introduce the new Moonfall mechanic. Axie Infinity: Homeland revolves around the Atia Tree, which is where Atia died before his heart became the moon. When Agonia wrecked the moon, shards of the moon fell down to Lunacia. Homeland players will now be able to discover these precious Moonfalls in the game by completing certain rare actions – and receive these sacred rewards. Who will discover Lunacia’s first Moonfall, and what will they find inside?
New Phase, New Model
We’re working towards a future where Homeland has a self-sustaining in-game economy. That’s why, starting today, we’re transitioning away from both leaderboards and seasonal achievements to better align player incentives. We’ve also diverted 20% of land staking rewards to Homeland, which will increase the total rewards to around 60K per month. We understand that players may have mixed feelings about these updates! Here’s why we’re doing this:
Long term, Homeland seeks to maximize player engagement with the game through strong incentive alignment between players, Axie asset holders, and the game development team. As we progress through various phases of the game development lifecycle, we will be guided by experiments, and ultimately decisions that always work to support that underlying goal.
Throughout the initial alpha phase of Homeland, we sought to introduce core gaming mechanics to current land holders, begin to engage the community in the co-creation process, and perform real-time tests of the underlying game infrastructure.
Now as we enter into the pre-beta phase, our focus is to scale player engagement by experimenting with multiple new game mechanic loops. We also want to build more effective, aligned partnerships with asset holders (both land plots and axies) so that we all collectively commit to growing the player base and level of engagement in Homeland. We believe that greater community engagement leads to a higher quality game.

How can I earn AXS in Homeland?
The first way to earn AXS is by earning mAXS through normal actions like gathering, crafting, producing, or winning a battle.
The second way to earn AXS is by discovering a Moonfall. You’ll have a chance to discover a Moonfall every time you complete a rare action like defeating a special enemy/boss, gathering a level 6 deposit, or crafting a Mythical item. Each Moonfall contains a large amount of mAXS.
You’ll be able to claim AXS from App.axie after Sky Mavis mints it following a weekly review process.
How are regular mAXS earnings calculated?
Most normal in-game actions will give players a chance to earn mAXS. For example, gathering, producing, crafting, and achieving victory in battle are all potential ways to earn mAXS. However, each plot type has a daily reward cap. Here are the maximum rewards each plot can generate per day:
Savannah: 16 mAXS
Forest: 52 mAXS
Arctic: 148 mAXS
Mystic: 328 mAXS
Genesis: 6,540 mAXS
How do Moonfall mAXS rewards work?
Players have the chance to discover a Moonfall once per account, per plot, per day. That means the same account cannot discover two Moonfalls in a single day, nor can one plot yield more than one Moonfall in a single day. There is also a limit to the number of total discoverable Moonfalls across all players per day. This incentivizes delegation as each unique player account has a chance to discover a Moonfall.
Note that the server will reset daily at 00:00 UTC.
