Axie Classic Update: Gold Chests, Grand Tournament Phase 2, and Higher AXP Caps

• Phase 2 of the Grand Tournament is here! The next five rounds will determine who among the 70,632 Lunacians will move onto Phase 3 – which is the Final Round. In Phase 2, players can win Gold, AXS, and qualify for the next Phase.

• We’ve raised the AXP cap from 2,400 to 4,500. This makes both Classic’s and Origins’ AXP caps equal. Arena and Tournament modes will now grant each axie 75 AXP per win, while Cursed Coliseum will now grant each axie 150 AXP per win.

Two weeks ago, Jiho said four words that fired up Lunacians around the world: Axie Classic is Back. Since then, we’ve seen over 140K players flock to the Classic arena! So, it’s time for an update that makes Axie Classic even better. We’ve created a new off-chain resource called Gold, are ready to kick-off Phase 2 of the Grand Tournament, and have almost doubled the daily AXP cap – putting it on par with Origins. Sound good? Let’s dive into the details together:

What is Gold?

Gold is a new off-chain resource for Axie Classic. In the near future, Gold will be needed to purchase tickets for Cursed Coliseum. For now, you will still get your free daily ticket, but this will change in the coming weeks.

It’s a good idea to start stacking Gold if you play Classic. We’ll introduce more utility for Gold in the future, and today is just the first step. Here’s how you can get your hands on some precious Gold:

Win an Arena match → get a chance to score a Gold Chest → find Gold inside → Repeat

Gold Chests

There are four types of Gold Chests: common, rare, epic, and mystic. Each one has a unique drop rate, cooldown time, gold gain, and gold factor. Players can only have a maximum of four Gold Chests at any given time. You’ll have to wait until your Gold Chests’ cooldown period expires before acquiring more. For example, let’s say you won four straight matches and got four common Gold Chests. That would mean you met your four-chest cap, and would not be able to earn any more Gold Chests until the cooldown period was up after you unlocked at least one of them. The same kind of thing applies to rare, epic, and mystic Gold Chests – however, the cooldown periods will take longer.

The Grand Tournament Phase 2

Today, Phase 2 of the Grand Tournament goes LIVE at 12 PM VN! 70,632 Lunacians answered the call to battle and signed up for the Grand Tournament. That means we have a lot of arena matches ahead of us during this phase. These brave Lunacians will compete for the grand prize of Mystic axie #1978, while the runner-up will receive an Origin axie, and third and fourth place finishers will take home Japanese axies. Phase 2 of the Grand Tournament will have five total rounds where players are divided into different groups with their own leaderboard each time: 

Round 1

• Total players: 70,632

• Players per group: 100.

• Total groups: ~707.

• Matches per player: 10.

• Duration: 2 days.

• Winners: Top 20 players from each group receive 75 Gold each and qualify for Round 2.

Round 2

• Total players: 14,127

• Players per group: 100.

• Total groups: ~142.

• Matches per player: 10.

• Duration: 1 day.

• Winners: Top 20 players from each group receive 150 Gold each and qualify for Round 3.

Round 3

• Total players: 2,825

• Players per group: 50.

• Total groups: ~56.

• Matches per player: 10.

• Duration: 1 day.

• Winners: Top 25 players from each group receive 225 Gold each and qualify for Round 4.

Round 4

• Total players: 1,413

• Players per group: 50.

• Total groups: ~29.

• Matches per player: 10.

• Duration: 1 day.

• Winners: Top 10 players from each group receive 300 Gold and qualify for Round 5.

Round 5

• Total players: 283

• All players will be in one Final Group.

• Matches per player: 25.

• Duration: 3 days.

• Winners: Top 100 players will receive 450 Gold and 1 AXS each. Top 16 players will also qualify for Phase 3, which consists of the Final Tournament.

General Rules

• 1 win = 1 point

• 1 loss = 0 points

• Draw = match doesn’t count

• Players can switch teams between matches

Higher Daily AXP Caps

More and more Lunacians are starting to see what AXP can do for them. We’ve seen mini-scholarships emerge where AXP farmers grind for other Lunacians, and have already teased utility in Parts Evolution. That’s why we’re increasing the daily Axie Classic AXP cap from 2,400 to 4,500! Arena and Tournament modes will now grant each axie 75 AXP per win, while Cursed Coliseum will now grant each axie 150 AXP per win.

Final Thoughts

Lunacians, you might feel like you’ve spent the last year and a half in the trenches. Homeland was in an early development stage. Project T was a brand new prototype. Ronin games had only just started building. Now, the tide is starting to turn. Axie Classic brought back legions of players to Axie. The Pixels and Axie communities have made a perfect union.
