GCash is coming to Axie and Ronin!
Maligayang pagdating! The leading mobile wallet app in the Philippines has joined our movement
Key Points
We’re honored to join forces with GCash – the leading mobile wallet app in the Philippines! Together through this partnership, we’re making crypto more accessible for Filipinos.
Today, about 80% of Filipino internet users rely on GCash for financial services like transferring money, paying bills, or shopping online. That’s over 80M people! For our US readers, think of GCash as the Venmo of the Philippines, but with a broader impact and adoption, given the unique financial landscape of the country.
While AXS and SLP are already available through GCash's GCrypto feature, our collaboration aims to broaden and enhance these offerings. We are excited about the potential advancements this partnership could bring, focusing on elevating the user experience.
The Philippines has long been the beating heart of Axie, Ronin, and Web3 gaming. For example, Filipinos ranked first in the world for interest in Web3 gaming over the past three years. However, the restrictive nature of crypto regulations can sometimes tie the hands of these early adopters. Here’s what this partnership means for our movement and our allies in PH:
Joining Forces with GCash
Recent developments, such as the regulatory challenges faced by Binance – a common onramp method for many Filipinos – highlight the need for diversifying access methods for the local Axie and Ronin community. In response, our collaboration with GCash is a strategic move to provide Filipinos with an alternative that meets the local dynamics and user needs.
In the Philippines, about 80% of internet users rely on GCash for financial services. That’s ~80M people who send and receive money, pay bills, shop online, and more – all through GCash. Our alliance will now add Ronin gaming to that list. Filipinos will soon be able to exchange fiat for crypto on the platform many already use everyday.
“This collaboration is another step ahead in our mission to transform the potential of blockchain technology and to democratize it even more, going beyond the purchase, sale, and maintenance of cryptocurrencies in the GCash app. We believe crypto gaming should be friendly, affordable, and enjoyable to all. By working together with Sky Mavis, we will continue to achieve our mission to remove the financial and technical barriers of crypto gaming while putting our user’s safety as a top priority.”
Martha Sazon – GCash president and CEO
“Axie Infinity is a beloved title to players across the globe, especially within the Philippines. We’re joining forces with their team to unlock new possibilities, aiming to blend the excitement of Web3 gaming with GCash’s financial technology. This partnership is all about enhancing user experience, setting the stage for exciting developments. Stay tuned for what we create together!”
Luis Buenaventura – Assistant Vice President, GCash
While we are still navigating the roadmap of this collaboration, our vision is centered on creating a direct and seamless pathway for users to engage with Axie and Ronin. Our goal is to enhance accessibility and convenience for the Axie and Ronin ecosystem.

Final Thoughts
We launched Axie in 2018 to spread digital property rights to users of the internet – starting with gamers. In a landscape where regulatory dynamics are constantly evolving, especially in the Philippines' crypto scene, our alliance with GCash is more than just a collaboration, but a strategic move. Our vision is to adaptively respond to these changes, ensuring that we continue to offer solutions to our community and navigate these dynamics proactively. Our alliance with GCash pushes that vision forward, and we’re just getting started together. Let’s keep building!
