Over the past seven years, we’ve harbored many dreams for Lunacia.
We dreamed of a walkable open-world where we could meet our friends.
We dreamed of a place to unleash the full economic and social potential of our axies.
We dreamed of bringing together everything we loved about Axie, all in one place.
Tomorrow, those dreams start to become real.
The first Atia’s Legacy playtest kicks off tomorrow. The game may be in its earliest stages, but it’s also the seed for Axie Infinity’s next flagship experience. We’re excited to welcome ~1,000 devoted community members into a new kind of Axie game. It feels like Day 1 all over again. This is an important moment for our movement, and here’s how we’re thinking about it:
Atia’s Legacy: The Road Ahead
Building an MMORPG around a mature and complex ecosystem like Axie Infinity is a challenge we’re ready to take on. Most game developers only start thinking about the economy once a game is live. With Atia’s Legacy, we’re going to build the economy while we build the game from the ground up.
However, this week’s playtest is just an early, feature-limited version of what Atia’s Legacy will be. It’s a way to get real-time feedback on our current thinking around the game. How do the visuals look and feel? Which features are players enjoying the most? Where can we make things better? Playtesters, we want to hear YOUR thoughts as we shape Atia’s Legacy together over the coming years.
“The first Atia’s Legacy playtest will kick off Axie’s evolution into a full social universe.
It lays the foundation for a world where you can fight, craft, trade, lead, and win. All as part of something bigger than any one of us.
Thank you for walking this path with us.
The road may be long, but the destination will be worth it.
Lunacia will be a digital nation that will outlast us all.”
With gratitude,
Jihoz and Trung
Remember: This is only the first playtest, and we’ll have more to validate new gameplay and economic loops via Axie Core, collectible axies, Land plots, and even Guilds. In the meantime, we want to share how we’re looking at some of the most pressing questions we’ve heard from Lunacians around the world.
Atia’s Legacy: Community FAQ
Here’s how we’re thinking about Atia’s Legacy. Some of the answers to the questions below are firm, some are exploratory, and all of them are open to feedback.
❓ Question: How might Axie XP/Evolution be integrated into Atia’s Legacy?
✅ Answer: We envision them carrying over.
AXP Levels: If core progression carries over to Atia’s Legacy, leveled-up axies could have meaningful in-game advantages
Evolved Parts: Like AXP Levels, these could increase the overall strength and flexibility of your axie and team.
For example, end-game Dungeons might be easier to complete with higher-level axies or evolved parts.
❓ Question: How might collectible axie NFTs be integrated?
✅ Answer: They’ll most likely unlock extra features.
Exclusive Content: Imagine getting access to exclusive dungeons, areas, skills, and cosmetics reserved for collectibles only. This might look like a walkable Mystic Mountain where Mystic holders can gather.
Higher potential: A collectible axie may not be stronger than a regular axie, but it can have unique benefits that change the game.
For example, collectible axies might faint in a situation where most axies would be destroyed. Collectibles may also have a higher Mystic drop rate on certain items in certain areas, and vertical progression could also be higher.
❓ Question: What’s the plan for Guilds?
✅ Answer: We’d like to develop guild-based gameplay a lot.
Backbone of a strong economy: We’re thinking about ways Guilds can shape the future of Axie itself. Guilds could be more than social hubs: They can become vehicles to introduce risk, reward, and glory to our community. Complex economics. New game loops. Remember: These are still work-in-progress, early thoughts.
Deep Token Loops and Warfare: Guilds can make it possible to introduce new ways to spend and use tokens. They can also enable large-scale, collective experiences where players contribute to each other’s success. In many ways, everything built into Atia’s Legacy can roll into the Guild system.
❓ Question: How might Land NFT assets be integrated?
✅ Answer: We envision them playing a pivotal part in Guilds while unlocking new content.
New game content: Think land decoration, Dungeon creation, land buildings, farming on Land.
Unlocking Guilds and Territories: Land can be a key piece of Guild + Guild War mechanisms. Atia’s Legacy opens up a lot of opportunities where activity on your Land can drive meaningful economic power for you and your Guild.
❓ Question: How might AXS be integrated?
✅ Answer: We believe AXS can be the backbone of Atia’s Legacy.
The beating heart of Lunacia: AXS should continue to serve as the premium currency for the Axie ecosystem, and will be like a store of value within Atia’s Legacy.
More AXS levers: We’re looking at novel ways to drive economic activity around AXS, and are even considering sinking other tokens to support AXS.
For example, imagine features that drive AXS staking, new NFTs mintable with AXS, more content purchaseable with AXS, and so on.
❓ Will there be new tokens / NFTs?
✅ Answer: Most likely, yes.
Novel token incentives: Atia’s Legacy makes it possible to introduce new NFTs and ERC-20C tokens that make rewards even more interesting.
Spender acquisition: We’re in early discussions for potential NFT sales that would target big spenders and active users beyond Axie and Ronin and across all of Web3.
For example, picture game loops fueled by apptokens that are reliant on AXS emissions. Read through some of Jihoz’s early thoughts on ERC-20C apptokens here.
❓ Question: Who is the ideal player profile for Atia’s Legacy?
✅ Answer: We’re thinking about four categories. The Axie-Committed, Axie-Lapsed, Axie-Informed, and Axie-Curious.
Axie-Committed: If you love Axie, Atia’s Legacy is for you. We want to make our OGs happy as we build together over the coming years. This is about delivering the experience we’ve all dreamed of from the beginning.
Axie-Lapsed: These are community members who have drifted away from our ecosystem over the years. We want Atia’s Legacy to go back to Axie’s roots and appeal to players who believed in Axie before.
Axie-Informed: There’s a large number of Web3 users who know about Axie but have yet to jump in. Maybe they were looking for a specific kind of experience, or felt like they missed out. Atia’s Legacy can be a fresh opportunity for them to join our community and even spark the excitement we all felt upon discovering Axie for the first time.
Axie-Curious: This is where Atia’s Legacy can support Web3 gaming and the crypto industry as a whole. We’d like to expand to users on the fringes of Web3 and even Web2 by giving them easy onramping opportunities through Atia’s Legacy. Atia’s Legacy is the kind of game you should be able to show your mom and normie friends.
❓ Question: Will the game be open world?
✅ Answer: That’s the goal!
We want Lunacians to feel good walking around Lunacia. That’s why we’re building alongside our community and collecting feedback as we test each piece of the puzzle. We want to make sure we build what our community wants.
❓ Question: How will feedback be integrated?
✅ Answer: As often and efficiently as possible.
Focused Conduit: We’ll create channels for early feedback to go straight to our teams. These channels will start with Mystic holders and select community reps.
Regular Updates: You can expect proof of progress and checkpoints, not long silences.
Balancing Feedback with Vision: Just because someone asks for a giant AI-powered VR axie that shoots hot coffee from its horns does not mean we’ll build it. However, we want to hear ALL of your ideas. We’ll read everything. We want Atia’s Legacy to be an amazing experience for YOU.
