Jihoz set the tone for the year, acknowledging that 2025 was “too quiet.” In 2026, Sky Mavis is shifting to an aggressive, risk-taking stance to restore the economy and excitement around the brand.

• Economic Restoration: The focus is on aligning human nature with system incentives.

• Market Momentum: AXS recently saw a huge “short squeeze” in Korea, signaling renewed interest in the token’s upcoming utility.

2. Bonded AXS (bAXS) and the Airdrop

The team revealed the specific Exchange Rate for bAXS → AXS, tied directly to a player’s Axie Score Designations.

The bAXS Philosophy:

• bAXS is non-tradable but can be spent 1:1 for all Axie Core related activity such as breeding, evolving, Codex purchases, and more.

• Conversion: Players can convert bAXS to liquid AXS, but the Exchange Rate depends on their Axie Score designation.

• The Airdrop: A snapshot will be taken on February 5th at 00:01 UTC. Wallets with at least 10 AXS stakedwill receive a portion of a 100,000 bAXS pool, distributed based on staking amount and Axie Score.

3. Atia’s Legacy: First Look at PvP

In a historic moment for the community, Jase and Jihoz faced off in the first-ever live PvP in Atia’s Legacy.

• Controls: Desktop play uses a “mouse-to-turn, keyboard-for-abilities” style reminiscent of classic MMOs like World of Warcraft.

• Combat Depth: The demo featured various abilities per player while controlling only one axie, instead of a squad axie.

4. Terrariums: Bringing Land Home

In a major pivot, Jihoz and Shade announced that Axie Homeland will be sunset and replaced by Terrariums.

Terrariums will be this new experience that is basically the long term foundation of axie core. It will be a persistent land based gameplay layer where axie lives, grow, generate vallue, and more importantly it’s where future system like mini games, risk-to-earn, expeditions, territory, accessories, land items, Atia’s legacy… all plugged into this foundational Terrarium’s layer.” — Shade

• Yield Mechanics: Owners place Axies on their plots. The Axie’s quality (level, evolution, collectibles) determines the yield of bAXS and EXP.

• Land Items: Decorative items will now have functional utility, augmenting the rewards of the plot.

• Sunset Plan: Homeland rewards will roll over to Terrariums. The team is targeting the first half of 2026 for the MVP launch.

5. Codex Season 1: Songs of the Soil

The next stage of the Codex will launch alongside Playtest 2 of Atia’s Legacy to create a unified lore arc.

• Theme: “Songs of the Soil,” focusing on the history of Pot Golems.

• Lore-Driven: Lore will no longer be a background element but a “main lever” for ecosystem engagement.

• Bounty Board: Rewards will fully switch to bAXS once Season 1 begins.

Community Q&A Highlights

Q: Can we buy Axies on the marketplace using bAXS?

Shade: Not initially. Early on, you’ll spend bAXS on Core features (Breed/Evolve/Stake). However, we are working on a solution to allow bAXS to be used as “money” on the marketplace later this year so players can convert gameplay efforts directly into collectibles.

Q: Will there be a gap between Homeland shutting down and Terrariums launching?

Shade: We are still figuring out the nitty-gritty. It’s possible there will be a small gap, but the rewards are guaranteed to transition. We are targeting the first half of this year for the Terrarium launch.

Q: What about scholars and guilds?

Jihoz: The “scholarship” system needs to evolve. Scholars will need to “graduate” into collectors to get the best bAXS exchange rates. We have to evolve or die, and that means moving toward a system that rewards long-term contribution over industrial farming.

Last week, the Atia’s Legacy team met with our community to discuss Atia’s Legacy’s development. Cruise and Shade gave some feature and timeline updates. They also shared some of our vision for an even more expansive Atia’s Legacy. Here’s what they talked about:

Building the Multiplayer Foundation

Cruise opened by sharing how the team has been heads down refining the game’s multiplayer systems. Internal teams are focusing on combat feel, network stability, and backend infrastructure, ensuring that Atia’s Legacy can handle the demands of large-scale dungeon gameplay.

“We’re making sure it feels good, no lag, no sync issues, and that our backend can actually support what we’re dreaming up.”

The team plans to share early internal footage or screenshots once the foundation is solid, giving the community a preview before the next public playtest. The vision remains unchanged: a long-form, replayable MMO experience where your 100th or 10,000th hour still feels meaningful. That endgame loop, what you do after mastering the basics, remains the design anchor.

New Combat Direction: Solo Axie Battles

One of the biggest reveals of this AMA was a major shift from squad-based to single axie combat. While Playtest 1 featured 5 axies fighting together, internal tests showed this approach limited clarity and balance, especially in multiplayer raids.

“It was cool, but chaotic,” Cruise explained. “When everyone brought squads, it got hard to read, hard to coordinate, and we lost that sense of class identity.”

Now, each player will control one primary axie whose body parts directly define combat abilities. This change opens up deeper skill expression, strategic variety, and collectible utility.

Key benefits:

• Axie parts gain active abilities rather than only passive skill and stats

• Classes and archetypes such as tank, DPS, and support become clearer

• Combat feels tighter and more personal, closer to ARPGs like Diablo or Brawl Stars

• Each axie can equip multiple weapons, adding flexibility

The team is testing dodge, sprint, and other movement skills to make the minute to minute gameplay more dynamic. This shift also future-proofs for multiplayer party play by enabling clearer roles, better synergy, and less chaos.

Multiplayer Dungeons and Extraction Gameplay

The next major milestone is the debut of multiplayer dungeons with extraction elements, inspired by modern PvPvE risk games such as Tarkov and Arc Raiders. The team emphasized that Atia’s Legacy is not becoming Arc Raiders, but the genre’s recent success helped validate some of the direction the team was already exploring.

“We have been exploring this space since before Arc Raiders blew up,” Cruise noted.

Dungeons in Playtest 2 will combine boss fights, exploration, and extraction. Players can choose to extract early for safety or push deeper for higher stakes. The objective is not to make a sweaty, unforgiving extraction title, but a version that is emotional, thrilling, and approachable.

Cruise summarized the principle simply:

“How can I get my mom to risk to earn? That is the design challenge.”

Making Risk to Earn Accessible

Risk to earn traditionally caters to a small, niche subset of players. Atia’s Legacy aims to redefine that. Losing gear or extracting late will still have consequences, but the system is being shaped to reward smart thinking and team coordination rather than reflex-heavy gameplay.

Cruise called this emotional earning.

“Excitement comes from stakes. Accessibility comes from control. We want both.”

Elevating parts, classes, and AXP utility

A clear message from Playtest 1 was that equipment overshadowed the axie’s identity.

We’re working on fixing that.

In the future:

• Axie parts will have active abilities

• AXP levels and evolutions will provide meaningful progression

• Stat granularity will allow upgrades to feel significant again

Cruise noted that collectors and breeders who own wide axie rosters should feel that depth reflected in-game. While not all of them will be live for Playtest 2, it’s something we’re thinking about looking ahead. This also opens space for deeper economy loops, since higher level axies will demand rarer materials and more thoughtful crafting.

The Codex: From Rewards to Real Utility

Shade confirmed that the Codex will evolve beyond cosmetic rewards. The team is experimenting with:

• Accessories that provide in-game bonuses

• Consumables connected to Axie Core and Legacy

• New reward categories that help bind the entire ecosystem

“Think of the Codex as a testbed,” Shade said. “It is where we experiment with reward types that loop back into Legacy and Core.”

Everything in Axie is intended to matter over time, including badges, accessories, collectibles, and earned items.

Economy, Collectibles, and Design Balance

Atia’s Legacy is being designed holistically with the larger Axie ecosystem. This includes Axie Core, the AXS token economy, materials, collectibles, and eventually Land.

Shade highlighted that this approach is fundamentally different from earlier titles.

“We are not just making a fun game. We are building a connected system.”

Cruise added that Axie cannot aim small.

“We cannot just serve the same degen audience. We have to reach millions.”

Balancing Axie Complexity

The Axie universe includes parts, classes, levels, evolutions, accessories, and more. Balancing all of this at once is impossible, so the team will introduce utility systems in phases.

Life Skills

Crafting will be a core pillar of the long-term economy. Life skills such as fishing, mining, and gathering will complement the crafting system but may roll out gradually due to complexity.

“Fishing sounds trivial, but doing it right is its own mini-game,” Cruise explained.

The long-term intent is to allow meaningful non-combat progression that fuels the economy, even for players who never enter a dungeon.

Community Involvement and Transparency

The team reiterated that these fortnightly Lunacian Lounges exist to keep development transparent.

“If you are here, you are basically in the dev room with us,” Cruise said.

Community feedback directly influences design decisions, and the team wants players to understand how and why those decisions evolve.

Playtest Badges

Two badges are being issued for Playtest 1:

• A participation badge for all players

• A top 100 leaderboard badge

These badges will appear soon and may gain future utility across the Axie ecosystem.

Yes. Risk to earn is the central focus of Playtest 2.

Cruise noted that Origins was stuck on a content treadmill, which limited opportunities for deeper changes. Atia’s Legacy is being paced more intentionally.

Defeat them to clear the area and reveal the way to the central hall. That’s where you’ll need to find [redacted] in order to access the deepest part of the dungeon’s lab. There, you’ll meet the Scientist and face off against an MVP Boss.

Key Points

• AXS Staking Reward Overview: After discussions with Axie Contributors, we’ve decided to make a few adjustments to AXS staking reward distribution. This will enable us to further support future development of Axie Infinity while experimenting with new incentive models. Note that the token unlock schedule will proceed as outlined in the whitepaper. However, the distribution of these rewards will change.

• First Adjustment: AXS staking rewards will decrease by 5% every 9 days. This option was preferred by most Contributors, and enables staking rewards to continue indefinitely.

• Second Adjustment: If everything goes according to plan, we’ll begin rewarding select Lunacians with high Axie Scores in January 2026. This experiment will involve snapshots, airdrops, and further discussions with our community.

Lunacians. For a while, we’ve discussed our collective desire to improve staking. Ideally, AXS staking is a mechanism that encourages long term accumulation of AXS by our community members. However, for staking to succeed long term, the utility it provides needs to exceed simple passive yield. Examples of staking utility can include in-game utilities such as progression boosts, yield-weighting add-ons, exclusive access, and other assorted DeFi features. We expect to test new staking-related features on App.Axie first before integrating them into Atia’s Legacy. However, this will require significant development time and resources.

Previously, we’ve hosted conversations in the community around how we might begin experimenting with staking rewards. We have listened to several contributors expressing concerns that changing the staking scheme and extending the reward distribution timeline might conflict with what was stated in the whitepaper four years ago. It might be useful to clarify the distinction between token unlocks and token distribution schedules. The original whitepaper described the token unlock schedule, which will proceed as discussed. However, we have flexibility to distribute those tokens as we wish, and to date we’ve distributed around 95% of the total staking rewards. We’d therefore like to proceed with using the remaining 5% as effectively as possible to improve the staking protocol, support future development, and experiment with future incentive models.

Therefore, as an experiment (Thanks to those who helped generate the discussion options and proposed separating on-chain passive rewards from off-chain semi-active rewards - an idea that significantly reduces the technical workload), and given the strong demand to integrate Axie score into reward distribution, we would like to introduce our first staking experiment:

1. For the current staking system, we will follow the option preferred by most Contributors who contributed to the conversation. In this system, rewards will decrease by 5% every 9 days, which has a nice byproduct of allowing staking to continue indefinitely. This setup helps us observe how TVL responds to changing emissions, rather than just market price movements. This update will start on 1st December.

2. Concurrently, we will begin an experiment of rewarding individuals with high Axie scores manually. We will reward via monthly snapshots and airdrops for users with high Axie scores (and potentially larger staked amounts). If things go to plan, this experiment will begin in January 2026.

These changes are part of an experiment intended to help us understand how staking behavior and TVL react independently of token price, as well as how we can utilize different reward structures that positively influence user participation. Because updating the smart contract that uses off-chain data like Axie score is technically complex, we will begin with a more manual and experimental approach by splitting the staking reward pool into 2 parallel runs.

This allows us to experiment with how semi-active, contribution-based rewards affect user behavior, and serves as a first step toward integrating Axie score into future distribution models in not only staking but Axie economy overall. Further information will be provided in upcoming notifications.

However, even among those who rated the combat system highly, several recurring dislikes and pain points were noted:

• Limited micromanagement and skill options

  • Players also wanted more control over individual axies, including the ability to manually lock targets.

  • Ability to manually attack.

  • There’s no visible indicator for passive skill cooldowns, making it harder to strategize.

  • There’s also requests for option to automate skill usage.

• Clunky and unresponsive squad control

  • Axies frequently get stuck due to formation issues.

  • Movement becomes awkward or buggy when the squad leader moves off-camera.

  • Dodging attacks (both in regular and boss battles) feels nearly impossible, leading to repeated requests for a dodge/dash/sprint feature.

• As mentioned in the Graphics & Visuals feedback, the squad system makes battles feel overcrowded, especially when multiple mobs are present.

• Auto-farming frustrations

  • Axies tend to wander too far from their original positions, causing inconvenience.

  • Players requested a “hold ground” option to keep formations stable.

  • Ranged axies (e.g., bow users) can safely attack from a distance, creating an imbalance in gear effectiveness for farming.

• Players felt the attack speed and cooldowns were too slow, especially for Tripp.

• The Squad Leader (Tripp) feels weak and underwhelming

  • The leader can’t equip gear, which makes them feel weak.

  • Players also disliked that the leader axie can’t be changed.

Why people liked the squad building

The most common reason players enjoyed the squad system was the depth and flexibility in team building. They appreciated experimenting with different builds and strategies.

• Allowing axies to freely equip different items (not being locked to specific equipment) was seen as a big positive.

• The equipment rarity system was also praised, as it added an exciting layer of RNG and progression.

Things people disliked about the Squad System

• Some players disliked the squad system for several reasons:

  • It made the game feel too much like a single player experience — many wanted to play and interact with others.

  • Some preferred smaller teams or solo axie gameplay instead of running around and battling with a squad of axies.

  • Squad control felt confusing and unintuitive.

  • Unable to change the squad leader, which limited flexibility.

  • Squad positioning didn’t seem to have much meaningful impact on combat.

• Players wanted clearer class identities, with each class having a more distinct role and gameplay style.

• There was strong feedback that axie parts should have a greater impact, such as acting as active skills — right now, equipment seems to overshadow them.

• Changing squads is very cumbersome, especially for players with many axies and gears. A squad loadout system was highly requested to make switching between setups easier.

• (2) As noted in the Graphics & Visuals feedback, the squad system made visuals feel crowded and chaotic, both during battles and in the town area.

• The axie management (equipment) page needs significant improvements to improve user experience and clarity.

• Missing tooltips for stats, buffs, and debuffs caused confusion, leaving players unsure about the effects of certain attributes. Tutorials are highly requested as well with this confusion.

Boss Battle System: 4/5 ⭐

Although many players rated the boss battle experience highly (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐), most of them didn’t specify what they liked.

Instead, many added comments focused on what they’d like to see improved or added to make boss fights more engaging.

• The most common feedback was the lack of boss mechanics and visual clarity in boss skills.

• Many players found it difficult to tell when the boss was using a skill or performing an attack, making it hard to understand or react to the mechanics.

• The second most mentioned issue was the poor squad control during boss battles. Players wanted to dodge attacks, but the current control system made it too difficult.

• Many requested to remove the time limit on boss fights, as it made the experience feel more like a time attack rather than a strategic battle.

• The boss map feels too small, and players hoped for a more dynamic or well designed environment to enhance the overall experience.

• Several players suggested that boss fights should feel more like dungeons, where players progress through the dungeon with mini encounters before facing the final boss.

• A known bug where damage didn’t register correctly after defeating the boss (e.g., showing 49,999 or 149,999 damage) was also highlighted as a major pain point and source of frustration among players.

Note: About half of the respondents said they had nothing they strongly disliked. The points below reflect feedback from the other half who shared their thoughts.

1. Lack of Content & Progression

   This was the most frequently mentioned issue. Many felt the available content was too limited for extended play sessions — most exhausted it within a few hours. They understood it’s an early build but found the remaining content repetitive with little sense of progression.

2. Combat & Squad System

   Second most mentioned area, with overlapping concerns:

   • Repetitive and boring autoplay farm.

   • Overall squad control

   • Frustration with movement especially when Tripp dies.

   • Lack of micromanagement.

   • Preference for controlling one axie at a time.

   • As noted in Graphics & Visuals feedback, the squad system also made the screen feel overcrowded and chaotic during both battles and town exploration.

How would you like to see the in-game economy evolve in the future

• A lot of players would like to see tradeable NFT items/equipments, and noted that these should be craftable from materials instead of directly purchased.

  • Some players also want an in-game marketplace/trading system, along with the option to mint them for listing on NFT marketplaces.

  • A few players would like to be able to make transactions in-game as well, such as purchasing axies.

  • Some players are also asking for upgradable equipments by consuming duplicates, with potential for failing.

  • A few players would also like to see cosmetics-only items.

• A lot of players are asking for AXS/SLP integration as well, whether it’s earning these tokens or spending these tokens in the game.

  • Some ideas include using AXS/SLP for upgrades, for buying temporary buffs/boosts, and making AXS the currency for in-game trading/purchases.

  • Some players are asking for burning mechanics for AXS/SLP to help with sustainability.

• Some players would like play-to-earn mechanics, with rewards of either AXS/SLP or a new token.

  • A few players noted that the reward system should be balanced between casual players and more dedicated players. Some also believe that rewards should be depending on effort made by the player [like rewarding top ranking players in leaderboard].

  • While some players would like risk-to-earn/gacha mechanics, there are a few who are opposed to it as well.

  • Some players think that spending should be required to improve their axies/squad.

• A lot of the players wants the economy to be player-driven, for the players to freely price their items however they want and that players should be responsible for producing all items/equipments made in-game.

• Some players would like integration with other current Axie games, such as using equipments from Homeland and runes/charms from Origins.

• A lot of players are asking for integration of current Axie NFTs/currencies/mechanics, including:

  • Axie NFTs, including Axie Core.

  • Utility for Land Plots.

  • Using Mementos for crafting, upgrades, rerolls, etc.

  • Accessories providing minor buffs.

• Some players want a Stamina/Energy based system that limits the use of an axie, to help with stopping bots from just farming the game.

  • Content lock behind the amount of parts evolved.

  • More movement speed, gear slots, skill slots etc depending on axie core progression.

• Have upgradable:

  • Stats

  • Talent tree

  • And even skills

• Tower System where you can challenge bosses from level/floor 1-100

• Different boss with different mechanics that would require you to always switch up your team of axies, gears and strategies.

  • More and clearer AOE attack marks to evade to make the game more interactive as well.

• DPS Meter on every dungeon/boss battle to identify which axie is doing better/worse

Last week, Shade, Pos2, and JaseTheWizard hosted a fireside chat with the Axie community. They answered live questions, discussing Axie Core, Atia’s Legacy, collectible utility, the Codex, and more. Here’s a recap of that conversation:

Introducing the Codex: App.axie’s Battle Pass

The highlight of the AMA was the full reveal of the Codex. Remember: This Town Hall took place before the Codex went LIVE! Shade shared a testnet demo and answered questions from the audience. Here were the key points:

• The Codex is a new battle pass system on App.axie

• Anyone can purchase the Premier Path for 7.5 AXS to unlock higher-tier rewards

• Earn Bounty Points in the Daily Bounties tab (no more SBB or PBB)

• Stack new Codex Points to earn AXS, exclusive accessories, Lucky Coins, and more

The first season of the Codex is called The Ascendant Path. Players have to reach 500 Codex Points to unlock the first reward, and 25,000 Codex Points to earn ALL rewards available. Pro-tip: You can still re-roll daily bounties using Fortune Slips. Fortune Slips and collectible axies continue to play an important part in the Axie Core economy.

Rewards Available in Codex Season 0

The season is set to last a total of 8 weeks. The Axie teams are treating it like a live experiment, and plan to iterate on tuning, pacing, balance, and economic effects.

All Codex participants will receive Bounty Board Points. These are claimable bonuses that boost your leaderboard total and count towards your weekly score.:

In addition to that, Premier Path Purchasers can earn:

• Up to 6.5 AXS by reaching Level 24 (Give the 7.5 AXS, this also means you’ll only “spend” 1 AXS for the Premium tier)

• Up to 4 Exclusive Accessories at Levels 5, 10, 25, and 30 (Blossom Pot, Festival Crackers, Atia’s Effigy, and Fossil Guard).

• Lucky Coins to toss into the Ascendant Wellspring, a seasonal gacha machine with 4 additional limited-edition accessories that can’t be obtained anywhere else.

• Seasonal Hangout Banner at Level 20.

• Other Perks including +15% AXP when using Coco and +15% daily Fortune Slips when praying.

After level 30, players can continue to Level up and earn additional Lucky Coins up to level 50. Reaching level 50 grants a Codex Orb (Season 0) — a tradeable “badge of honor” that currently serves as a collectible milestone but may have future use.

“Right now it’s just bragging rights,” Shade explained. “But who knows? It might do something later.”

Clarifying the Bounty Board Transition

To summarize the new system, Shade provided a clear breakdown:

Inflation and Economy: Balancing the Slips Supply

Several community members raised concerns about the 15% increase in Fortune Slip supply and its potential inflationary effect. Shade confirmed that while no new burn mechanics will be introduced this season, the team is watching the economy closely.

“That’s why it’s Season 0,” he emphasized. “We’re testing progression, pacing, and economic impact. If we need to make adjustments, we will.”

He also clarified that entry fees help subsidize the reward pool, but excess rewards are funded from the Play-to-Earn Fund, keeping the system economically balanced.

More Accessories, More Expression, and More Utility on the Horizon

Shade explained that the team now has a streamlined process to create new accessories. This is part of an effort to make axies look and feel more personal again.

“Everyone’s axies used to look the same. Accessories were meant to make them unique. We’re finally doubling down on that.”

Discussions are already underway about accessory utility within both Axie Core and Atia’s Legacy. Accessories may one day:

• Offer gameplay perks.

• Enable AXP-sharing mechanics.

• Provide access to unique areas or quests.

Axie Quest also got a shout-out. it’s a good example of a game that has integrated accessories with in-game bonuses.

AXP Sharing and the Future Beyond Level 60

Players asked what happens after reaching the current level 60 cap. Shade confirmed that simply raising the cap isn’t ideal because it risks grind fatigue and imbalance. Instead, several ideas are being explored:

• Prestige Systems, similar to Call of Duty, where players reset levels for special recognition.

• Stage 3 Part Evolutions, tied to future lore and gameplay.

• AXP Sharing, allowing XP from maxed-out Axies to be stored or shared.

“Imagine linking two Axies through an accessory so one shares XP with the other,” Shade said. “It’s like Pokémon’s AXP Share — but on-chain.”

Origins, Classic, and the Shift Toward Atia’s Legacy

Shade and Pos2 confirmed that major development has shifted entirely to Atia’s Legacy, the upcoming MMO that will unite Axie Core systems.

Origins and Classic will remain operational, with occasional reward or balance adjustments, but no major updates are planned.

“We’re putting 100% of our focus on Atia’s Legacy,” pos2 said. “That’s the future of Axie.”

Collectibles and Utility: Restoring Value to Mystics and Origins

One of the most discussed topics came from community collector Kyroh, who asked about the declining value of Mystic and Origin Axies. Shade explained that collectibles are currently diluted due to oversupply and lack of gameplay integration, but long-term solutions are in motion:

• Atia’s Legacy could introduce unique zones, interactions, and gameplay experiences exclusive to certain collectibles.

• Axie Core continues building out foundational systems — Fortune Slips, Coco, XP, breeding — to create intrinsic utility.

• Merch, figurines, and real-world initiatives will further enhance collectible identity.

“Atia’s Legacy is more social than Origins,” Shade said. “That gives us room to make collectible axies feel truly special again.”

Land

The discussion turned to Land gameplay, with community members expressing frustration that it feels passive and “like a chore.” Shade agreed, noting that current Land mechanics mostly function as an AXS faucet.

He outlined plans to reintegrate Land into Axie Core and eventually Atia’s Legacy — potentially linking it to guild mechanics and social gameplay.

Other Key Highlights and Community Questions

• PBB Flexibility: The community suggested exploring flexible bounty systems to accommodate players in regions with unstable internet or power (e.g., “best 5 of 7 days” scoring).

• Secret Class Parts: Still planned (for Mech, Dawn, and Dusk), though complex due to 3D modeling in Atia’s Legacy.

• Lore Integration: Future Codex seasons will include story chapters that unlock as players progress, connecting directly to Atia’s Legacy quests and NPCs.

• Governance Quests: The Bounty Board may host governance-related missions to boost participation.

Final Thoughts

The team thanked everyone for the joining the AMA and sharing their thoughts. The next AMA is set to feature Cruise diving deep into Atia’s Legacy, its gameplay foundations, and how it will unify the Axie experience.

The first Atia’s Legacy playtest kicks off tomorrow. The game may be in its earliest stages, but it’s also the seed for Axie Infinity’s next flagship experience. We’re excited to welcome ~1,000 devoted community members into a new kind of Axie game. It feels like Day 1 all over again. This is an important moment for our movement, and here’s how we’re thinking about it:

Atia’s Legacy: The Road Ahead

Building an MMORPG around a mature and complex ecosystem like Axie Infinity is a challenge we’re ready to take on. Most game developers only start thinking about the economy once a game is live. With Atia’s Legacy, we’re going to build the economy while we build the game from the ground up.

However, this week’s playtest is just an early, feature-limited version of what Atia’s Legacy will be. It’s a way to get real-time feedback on our current thinking around the game. How do the visuals look and feel? Which features are players enjoying the most? Where can we make things better? Playtesters, we want to hear YOUR thoughts as we shape Atia’s Legacy together over the coming years.

Remember: This is only the first playtest, and we’ll have more to validate new gameplay and economic loops via Axie Core, collectible axies, Land plots, and even Guilds. For example, collectible axies might faint in a situation where most axies would be destroyed. Collectibles may also have a higher Mystic drop rate on certain items in certain areas, and vertical progression could also be higher.

❓ Question: What’s the plan for Guilds?

✅ Answer: We’d like to develop guild-based gameplay a lot.

• Backbone of a strong economy: We’re thinking about ways Guilds can shape the future of Axie itself. Guilds could be more than social hubs: They can become vehicles to introduce risk, reward, and glory to our community. Complex economics. New game loops. Remember: These are still work-in-progress, early thoughts.

• Deep Token Loops and Warfare: Guilds can make it possible to introduce new ways to spend and use tokens. They can also enable large-scale, collective experiences where players contribute to each other’s success. In many ways, everything built into Atia’s Legacy can roll into the Guild system.

❓ Question: How might Land NFT assets be integrated?

✅ Answer: We envision them playing a pivotal part in Guilds while unlocking new content.

• New game content: Think land decoration, Dungeon creation, land buildings, farming on Land.

• Unlocking Guilds and Territories: Land can be a key piece of Guild + Guild War mechanisms. Atia’s Legacy opens up a lot of opportunities where activity on your Land can drive meaningful economic power for you and your Guild.

❓ Question: How might AXS be integrated?

✅ Answer: We believe AXS can be the backbone of Atia’s Legacy.

• The beating heart of Lunacia: AXS should continue to serve as the premium currency for the Axie ecosystem, and will be like a store of value within Atia’s Legacy.

• More AXS levers: We’re looking at novel ways to drive economic activity around AXS, and are even considering sinking other tokens to support AXS.

For example, imagine features that drive AXS staking, new NFTs mintable with AXS, more content purchaseable with AXS, and so on.

• Novel token incentives: Atia’s Legacy makes it possible to introduce new NFTs and ERC-20C tokens that make rewards even more interesting.

• Axie-Lapsed: These are community members who have drifted away from our ecosystem over the years. We want Atia’s Legacy to go back to Axie’s roots and appeal to players who believed in Axie before.

• Axie-Informed: There’s a large number of Web3 users who know about Axie but have yet to jump in. Maybe they were looking for a specific kind of experience, or felt like they missed out. A few years ago, the digital nation of Lunacia embarked on a landmark journey to become a community-owned ecosystem. This mission was driven by a process of progressive decentralization, via a deliberate, phased approach designed to place the power and responsibility for Axie Infinity into the hands of our dedicated community.

Today, we are thrilled to announce that we are entering the next major phase of this journey. Key community leaders have worked closely alongside Sky Mavis to lay the final groundwork for a robust governance system. It’s time to activate our collective voice and begin making key decisions together!

Introducing the Axie Infinity Foundation

To support a truly decentralized ecosystem, we are in the process of establishing the Axie Infinity Foundation, an independent, non-profit entity tasked with stewarding the growth of our digital nation.

The Foundation will act as a trustee and fiduciary, bound by the decisions made through Axie's on-chain governance. Its primary responsibility is to execute the will of the community, deploying Community Treasury assets only as directed by your votes.

Sky Mavis will capitalize the Foundation with assets from the Ecosystem Fund to cover at least two years of operational expenses. A separate grant pool from the Ecosystem Fund will also help kickstart community initiatives. Resource deployment will be based on community votes.

We are currently exploring the best legal structure for the Foundation, with strong focus on Decentralized Unincorporated Non-profit Associations (DUNA). This groundbreaking framework is designed specifically for DAOs like ours, allowing us to establish a legal entity in the US. This enables the community to enter contracts, hold assets, and open bank accounts, all while offering liability protection to participants and preserving our decentralized, on-chain governance model.

The Pillars of Our Digital Nation

Our governance system is built on a few core components that ensure fairness, representation, transparency, and contribution-based influence:

The Constitution

This foundational document, developed by the community, serves as the governance framework for the Axie Infinity Digital Nation. Think of it as the basic rule set for Lunacia. It defines the roles and responsibilities of all participants, outlines how leadership should behave, and describes how power is shared. This is a living document, and we will soon move to ratify it with a community-wide vote. If you’re interested in the details of the Constitution, you can read it here!

Axie Score

We believe that the most impactful decisions should be guided by those who actively contribute to our ecosystem. The Axie Score is your "Axie resume," a point system that reflects your contributions across gameplay, community participation, asset ownership, and more. It ensures that voting power is weighted towards those who have consistently added value to our digital nation. A community-based council continues to oversee the evolution of the Axie Score, refining it with new badges and feedback from all of you.

The Community Treasury  

The Axie Infinity Community Treasury is a decentralized fund that collects revenue from in-game and marketplace activities. It is our community-owned resource pool, and its use is in our hands.

As of July 2025, the Treasury contains approximately: 23,000,000 AXS, 2,600 ETH. 75,000 RON. and 6,500 USDC. In addition, we anticipate the recovery of ~6.0M USDC and considerable additional assets (~40.0M) from the Ronin chain hack, which will be added to the Treasury over time. Ensuring Legal Clarity and Security

The evolving legal landscape for DAOs has presented challenges that at times placed projects and their participants at unwitting risk. To protect our community and the Treasury, we proactively engaged a third-party legal firm to conduct a comprehensive review of our governance process. The findings affirmed that our governance process is strongly decentralized, well-documented, and structured to withstand legal scrutiny. This expert validation, combined with the DUNA legal structure, gives us strong confidence that our approach minimizes risk for all participants, and gives us collective confidence to proceed.

In fact, we believe that the governance process has reached the stage of maturity to where the community is able to start accessing the Axie Treasury!  So let’s start coming to consensus on the kinds of investments and activities we should do together to grow Lunacia!

What's Next: Prioritize and Recommend Axie Infinity Proposals (AIPs) for Community Vote!

From its inception, Axie Infinity was built on the idea that players deserve a real stake in the universes they help create. That vision is now a reality. We’ve heard a number of great ideas around initial activities for the Community Treasury. Which of these interest you the most?

Last year, Derek Cariño earned a Diploma in International Culinary Arts. Congratulations, Derek! This is a commendable achievement on its own, and there’s even more to the story than meets the eye. This freshly-minted chef paid his entire tuition with in-game earnings from Pixels! Here’s how he did it:

How Derrick went from Pixels player to certified chef

Derek joined our movement in 2021 during the early days of Axie Infinity. He started off as a scholar, which gave him the chance to borrow other players’ axies and share the rewards. Around that time, over two million players just like him were just discovering Play-to-Earn gaming via Axie.

Fast-forward to October 2023, and Derrick heard about a new game on Ronin – Pixels. Curious, he checked it out. He joined an informal guild and jumped into the Play-to-Airdrop campaign as soon as it kicked off. Less than eight months later, he was paying off his university tuition using his in-game earnings!

Here’s a timeline of Derek’s Ronin journey:

• March 2020: Onboarded into Web3 via Axie Infinity

• March 2020 - March 2021: Played axie as a scholar while collecting NFTs

• October 2023: Discovered and started playing Pixels one month the game’s migration to Ronin

• January 2024: Started grinding the Pixels Play-to-Airdrop campaign

• March 2024: Sold in-game earnings and offboarded via Ronin allies Binance and GCash

• June 2024: Paid for tuition and scooter using Philippine pesos

Derek’s journey went deeper than in-game earnings – he also forged new friendships with Web3 gamers around the world. Together, they shared strategies, celebrated each other’s wins, and developed deeper blockchain knowledge. Jin, Ronin’s mascot, sat down with Derek one-on-one to talk about it.

Jin: Thank you for your time, and congratulations on your big victory, chef. 

Derrick: Thank you! I’m happy to be here.

Jin: Let’s start at the beginning. How did you join the Ronin movement?

Derrick: Sure, yeah. I got started in the early days of Axie Infinity. Back in 2021, I guess? I became a scholar, and was earning more by playing the game than my regular job. All of my friends were playing Axie too, and it became huge in the Philippines where I’m from. Ever since then, I’ve been a believer in Axie’s and Ronin’s potential to change lives. Axie was my introduction to Web3 and a massive community of onchain gamers.

Jin: How did you hear about Pixels?

Derrick: My brother told me about it. I had just resigned from my job, and I was waiting on some backpay. When I heard there was an opportunity to earn rewards by playing a game, I remembered what it was like during those early Axie days. So I started playing! Sometimes that’s all it takes to onboard someone. I try to pay it forward and tell my friends about what’s happening on Ronin like that, too.

Jin: How much did you earn in Pixels?

Derrick: I had about earned over 6K $PIXEL after the Play-to-Airdrop campaign, and even kept earning after that. I swapped most of it which was enough to pay for my university tuition and buy a secondhand scooter to commute with to work. It’s hard to keep track of my total earnings, because I also spent some in the Pixels ecosystem itself. For example, I minted a Pixels Pet just to show my support for the game!

Jin: How easy was it to offboard from $PIXEL to fiat on Ronin?

Derrick: Honestly it was pretty easy. I withdrew my $PIXEL earnings from the game into my Ronin Wallet, and swapped to RON on Katana. Then, I sent those tokens to Binance and swapped to stablecoins. From there, I withdrew my stablecoins to my GCash account, and used that cash to pay for the tuition and the secondhand scooter.

Jin: What are you up to in the Ronin ecosystem today?
